Lupe Fiasco ft. Jill Scott :: Daydream (Live on Letternman)
Dope. That's what this song is, dope.
I really dig it. I often listen to it on repeat, turned up really loud, while I'm washing dishes.
It's Lupe Fiasco (obviously) a prominent hip hop artist and Jill Scott (obviously) a prominent R&B artist sampling from IMonster's Daydream (which was a cover of the original Wallace Collection's song of the same title).
The progression just gets me so pumped up!
I also really appreciate the way Lupe raps about contemporary social issues, and how he slips it into all his music and onto radio. Learn more about that here.
Definitely on my list of "to-see-live".

(15) Bad Religion :: Atomic Garden
Bad Religion :: Atomic Garden
This is another suggested band from by buddy up in Minnesota.
Admittedly i am not the biggest Bad Religion fan, however i do like this song and have a nostalgic story to accompany it.
When i was in high school attending i happened upon a CD, not sure how it got into my collection, with no case. So i had no idea what it was. But i liked it.
On the CD the words "Anger, Fear, Sex, Death" were written. The first track on the album was this one, which i really dug. Some people i shared it with guessed that it may be Bad Religion but no one was ever certain.
So upon receiving the suggestion of Bad Religion I googled around a bit and found this song, discovered it was indeed the song i loved off of the mysterious CD i own, and posted it.
Enjoy.

Murder By Death :: Brother
Today at work i sent out a text to several friends with various musical tastes (most differing from mine) asking them to name 3-5 bands they would want other people to listen to.
This band was one of the responses i got.
Described to me as a "...a western sort of noise rock, vocals like Johnny Cash, a cello, ect."
I was sold on description alone! I checked um out, not to much non-live recordings available for free on the inter-tubes (or specifically YouTube). But the studio cuts (and home made videos to studio tracks) were all really solid.
A lot of the comments on the live videos said that they were a great band to catch live... and i believe it. These guys are on my watch list of bands too see.
This song is off of their 3rd release; 2006's In Bocca Al Lupo.

The Horrorpops :: Walk Like A Zombie
This group is rockabilly... except not. They are relatively unique and thus damned to the "sub-genre" game. So they are pychobilly or punkabilly... or whatever label someone wants to apply to them.
Bottom line, they rock, with an upright bass; and who doesn't love an upright bass... i know i do!

(12) The Black Keys :: I Got Mine
The Black Keys :: I Got Mine
Song number 12!
12 is my lucky number and has been as far back as i can remember.
For the 12th song i chose the Black Keys who kick so hard I want to buy some extra speakers just for them and turn them up even louder.
This song 'I Got Mine' was an instant favorite the first time i heard it. It's off their new album Attack and Release.
Oh and if you didn't know they are from Akron, Ohio. NEO represent.

Anthrax is a Metal Band.
Public Enemy is a Rap Group.
Scott Ian of Anthrax was a big Public Enemy fan, and would wear a Public Enemy shirt on stage.
Chuck D of Public Enemy took notice of Ian's shirt and referenced Anthrax in his rhyme.
Together they pioneered the genre of "rap-rock" or "Nu Metal" or whatever the hell you want to call it 3-4 years before any other band started to use it as their own styling.
I think it's an impressive show of genre b(l)ending, something that needs to happen more in music.

Charlie hunter is a jazz musician who loves dabbling with other artists and in other genres; he has a whole concept album with hip hop artists!!
Norah Jones is a real jazzy/pop artist. The sort of traditional jazz vocalist who has penetrated the mainstream.
The song is a Nick Drake song. I like Nick Drake quite a bit and expect to see him on this listing again.
